CONCERT PROGRAMMES

These concerts will feature music from a variety of genres and are a culmination of the work SFE has been doing in schools and at ensemble centres throughout the academic year.

On behalf of Services For Education I would like to welcome parents, carers, supporters, colleagues and ensemble members to our SFE School Based Ensemble Gala Concerts 2025.

The school-based ensemble programme is one we are incredibly proud of, as it enables students having lessons within their school setting to make music with their peers – these are memorable experiences that live with children as they move through the school system and into adulthood. For many, the time spent in a school-based ensemble will light a creative spark and encourage them to audition to join our Central Ensemble system. This will expand their musical minds and repertoire even further, and we have a number of our most senior musicians whose began their ensemble experience within our school-based system. We will be giving important information out at each concert about our central ensembles and how to audition for them in the coming months.

The depth and breadth of the ensemble programme that you will see highlighted tonight shows the incredible work that goes on in schools each and every day. This would not be possible without our amazing school-based staff as well as the conductors of each of the ensembles on display this evening. It is with a huge amount of gratitude that I thank them for all of their tremendous efforts in putting together the programme you will enjoy this evening.

My final thank you is to you – the parents, carers, family and friends of our performers. Without your support, encouragement, cajoling and occasional nagging, the performers tonight would not be in the position to contribute to the concert you will enjoy this evening. The recognition from families about the importance of musical experiences for the young people of Birmingham, and the key role it plays in their development, is one that is vital. The partnership between parents, schools and those of us within the Music Service helps makes these musical opportunities as enriching as possible – and so thank you for your continued support.

I hope that you enjoy the concerts.
