During this live session, we will take a close look at the implications of different areas of our school behaviour policy, and think deeply about the impact of this process on our SEND pupils.
We will discuss how and why we apply our whole school behaviour policy to our most vulnerable pupils, to ensure they understand the requirements of the policy and are supported to meet these, with any reasonable adjustments in place to help them do so.
We will go into specifics about what this looks like in practice and how to share this with the wider staff in school to ensure that, as a whole school, we are consistent in our application of the ‘rules’. You will go away feeling confident to draw the line between SEND need and behaviour choice and able to put this in place in your school.
Why should I attend this training?
We have all been there when a pupil is sanctioned under the behaviour policy, whilst another pupil appears to be able to behave however they like.
It creates tension between pupils and staff and creates the idea that it is ‘unfair’. Appreciating the differences between equality and equity and developing an understanding of how to apply a behaviour policy with reasonable adjustments for those who need it will overcome these difficulties and ensure pupils and staff alike are clear about the boundaries of the behaviour policy, leading to a more harmonious and calm learning environment.
Bring your own behaviour policy with you, and time will be built in to this session to think deeply about how you will apply this learning to your own policy and improve staff understanding of the importance of understanding that ‘line’ between SEND need and behavioural choice.
