Gender Bias – What is it and why is it a problem?
Adviser Lucie Welch has created a three-page resource you can share with all your colleagues about gender bias. She explains what it is, how it might manifest consciously or unconsciously through language or behaviour and how it might even feature in our curriculum. The resource describes how staff can recognise and then address this and talks of what the consequences long-term might be if this is not addressed..
DOWNLOAD HERELeading Safeguarding Audit
We have created a detailed Safeguarding audit tool you can use yourselves within your setting to “see where you’re at” in terms of best practice.
It can be used by your DSL, DDSLs, SLT and governors/trustees to assess your answers to the following types of questions:
- Are you confident your safeguarding policy and procedures are fully understood and enacted by all adults in your setting?
- Do you know how effective your safeguarding practices really are?
- What are your safeguarding strengths and what areas could be improved further?
Please note, we also offer a Safeguarding Audit for settings who wish to pay for an independent expert to come in and assess your practice and provide a written report. Contact us to find out more.

Please note that whilst all details were accurate at the time of recording, regular changes in national statutory guidance (in particular KCSIE) and local organisation mean that some references might be made to guidance and situations that have subsequently changed. The tone and ethos is still correct and very useful to those working in safeguarding.
