‘Behaviour as communication’, is a term used by professionals working with young people, but what does this actually mean in practice?
Children often use their behaviour to tell us what they need, or to show that they are struggling or feeling overwhelmed. All behaviour is a form of communication, but often those who display challenging behaviours, are using behaviour as they are unable to verbalise things.
