Description

This course is designed for leaders of the schools’ writing curriculum, with the training taking place face-to-face. Throughout the day we will deepen our understanding of the requirements within the key stages and year groups, ensuring that the core skills required to become greater depth are developed consistently and progressively.

The training will also consider what the statutory documents and EEF research tells us about effective teaching of writing, and the best ways in which to support and challenge our most successful writers, with our Pupil Premium pupils particularly in mind.

During this course participants will update their knowledge or learn about:

  •  The relationship between reading and writing
  •  The relationship between speaking and writing (including children’s planning)
  •  Expectations in grammar and punctuation
  •  Reviewing the writing expectations in each KS2 year group, ensuring that delegates have a sound subject knowledge of what standard is expected to gain ‘greater depth’ in writing throughout the key stage
  • Identifying opportunities for greater depth pupils to apply and showcase the skills learnt, and to develop ‘flair’
  • Supporting and developing a high standard of teaching and learning in writing throughout the school, and providing useful and impactful feedback to teachers

“A really useful course, which gives clear advice about what a child needs to do to be a greater depth writer and provides ways to implement help at schools.” Jack Ven, Class Teacher, 2023
